C'mon down and start your weekend early with "Guitar" George Baker and bassist Willie Moore at Harvest Wine Bar
in New Haven! The joint is always hoppin' and the food at the former Scoozi's is off the hook! Here's a little more about George Baker.
"Guitar George" Baker's career began in his hometown of New Roads, Louisiana, where he picked up a guitar at the age of 17. His first gigs were with local R&B vocalist Roosevelt "Boo" Gautier. He soon joined Earl Davis and the Upsetters and hit the road, touring with The Drifters and other headliners before jumping ship and coming to New York City in 1961. George Baker worked the thriving New York music scene for years where his talent was in high demand before hooking up with Marvin Gaye as his music director in 1968. Three years later he connected with singer Melba Moore but eventually he settled back back into New York City and more sessions work.
George Baker eventually found himself in New Haven, CT where he became the headliner of the George Baker Experience, working with many outstanding local musicians who would later play a significant part in George's debut CD, "Mojo Lady." George continues to play and jam and you'll find him most times playing with friend and noted area bassist Willie Moore.
