Washboard Slim and the Bluelights Kick Off Concert Series at PMH
Get ready to romp and stomp as Washboard Slim and the Bluelights bring their special blend of American music to the outdoor stage at the Pardee-Morris House on Wednesday, June 27 (rain date, Thursday, June 28), at 7 p.m., The free performance is the first of the 2108 Twilight Concert Series hosted by the New Haven Museum, which owns and operates the historic site. The on-site food-truck for the evening will be Shoreline Prime.
The Bluelights’ repertoire comes from the root of traditional American popular music. Drawing on a variety of traditional musical forms, the performance may include original tunes, early jazz, blues, swing, standards, jug band, early string band, gospel, vintage pop music, and rock’n’ roll.
The band has performed at festivals, concerts and clubs around the country since 1986 sharing stages and festivals with Count Basie, Muddy Waters, Taj Mahal, The Beach Boys, The Band, Peter Yarrow and Bill Monroe, among others. In 2008, they won the Connecticut Blues Challenge and entry into the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
Washboard Slim and the Bluelights have two CDs in print: “Rub That Rhythm” and, most recently, “Back to The Well.” The band members are: Peter Menta - drums, vocals, wind; Howard Horn - bass, vocals; Brooks Barnett -keyboards, vocals; Mat Kastner - guitar; John Pendergast - strings, vocals; Lauren Agnelli – vocals.
The Museum thanks Alder Salvatore Decola, and Morris Cove neighbors Frank Pinto and Rosemary Spring, for supporting the 2018 summer season.
Concert Details
Grounds open at 6 p.m., the concert begins at 7 pm. The Pardee-Morris House will be open to visitors for tours till 8 p.m. The public is invited to bring blankets and chairs and enjoy a picnic on the lawn.
About the Pardee-Morris House
Located at 325 Lighthouse Road, in New Haven, the Pardee-Morris House dates from about 1780, and is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places. Built by Amos Morris around 1750, the house was burned by the British during their raid on New Haven in 1779, and rebuilt and expanded by the Morris family. In 1918, William Pardee, a descendant of the Morris family, willed the property to the New Haven Colony Historical Society, today the New Haven Museum.
