Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective Presents: Steve Feifke and Alexa Tarantino
ALEXA TARANTINO an award-winning, vibrant, young jazz saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer, and educator. She holds a master’s degree in Jazz Studies from The Juilliard School and bachelor’s degrees in Jazz Saxophone Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music. Having played at prestigious venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Umbria Jazz Festival, Tarantino also leads her own quartet; she has recently released her new album, Winds of Change. She performs regularly as a leader and sidewoman in a wide variety of ensembles and genres including Sherrie Maricle & the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra (holding a weekly residency at Birdland Jazz Club), Cécile McLorin Salvant’s OGRESSE, LSAT (her new quintet co-led with baritone saxophonist Lauren Sevian), and the Alexa Tarantino Quartet. STEVEN FEIFKE is an American pianist, composer, and orchestrator. Feifke holds a BM in Jazz Studies and a minor in Economics from New York University (2013) and a MM in Jazz Composition from Manhattan School of Music in Jazz Composition (2018). Feifke has been featured as a pianist on a number of records including “Falling Forward” by Ulysses Owens Jr, “Onward” by Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and “First Things First” by Andrew Gould. His big band music has recently been featured by the Malmo Band in Switzerland, and soon his orchestral music will be debuted in August 2019 Next Generation festival in Florence, Italy. Feifke's music can be heard on the hit Netflix TV show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” produced by comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
