    Position Summary:

    The Director of the Institute for Hunger Research & Solutions is responsible for leading the Institute in supporting the food bank’s staff, programs, and partner network through trainings, technical assistance, research and evaluation to ensure successful implementation of Connecticut Foodshare’s strategic initiatives. The individual in this role will work closely with departments across the organization to support efforts to implement key tactics outlined in the Strategic Plan. This role will specifically focus on supporting programs and the partner network, and incoporporating voices of partner programs and those with lived experience with food insecurity into organizational decision making. This position will report to the Senior Director of Strategy.
    The salary range for this position is $64,800 to $83,800 per year depending upon experience and qualifications.

    Essential Functions:

    • Collaborate with Network and Program team to support programs and partner network to build capacity to enhance the guest experience, increase access to healthy food, and promote long-term food security.

    • Provide direct support to partner programs through trainings, technical assistance, and site visits.

    • Conduct presentations and trainings and develop research briefs to share best practices and evidence-based solutions so partner programs and community partners can implement them.

    • Develop new tools and resources to aid in scaling evidence-based solutions in partner programs

    • Coordinate activities across the organization to incorporate voices of partner programs and those with lived experience with food insecurity into organizational decision making

    • Support ongoing implementation of Connecticut Foodshare’s nutrition policy, guided by the SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries) stoplight nutrition ranking system

    • Evaluate progress and impact of the organization’s strategic plan against identified metrics.

    • Collaborate with Data and Impact team to develop and conduct measurement, evaluation, and learning activities to understand the impact and areas for improvement in Connecticut Foodshare’s work.

    • Develop and conduct research on food insecurity and food assistance program usage in Connecticut using both quantitative data collection and qualitative ethical storytelling.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Develop a constructive and cooperative team atmosphere within the department.

    • Oversee projects and assignments within the department.

    • Encourage development in direct reports.

    • Offer constructive feedback and substantive, timely performance evaluations.

    Other Functions:

    • Represent Connecticut Foodshare and conduct periodic community presentations about food insecurity

    Qualifications :

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (public health, public administration, social work or related discipline) with 3-5 years of experience in related work or equivalent relevant experience is required. Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

    • Strong knowledge and understanding of food insecurity and charitable food systems is required.

    • Experience conducting research and evaluation (including data analysis and reporting), and strong knowledge of ethical research practices is required.

    • Data analysis skills are required.

    • Supervisory experience is required.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel and PowerPoint is required.
