Our Programs for 2019-2020 semester
The Leadership Center, presented by Regional Water Authority, is home to both Leadership Greater New Haven (LGNH) and Executive Orientation (XO). These two programs offer aspiring community leaders and business executives a series of practical hands-on training in professional development and education in social and economic issues. The mission is to educate program participants and support their growth through leadership training and community education so that they may serve as catalysts for change in the Greater New Haven community.
Leadership Greater New Haven (LGNH)
It's a six (6) session program for professionals of all levels working in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors. Program participants will receive traditional training that will underscore various leadership styles and strategies for employee/staff management, navigating a multi-generational workforce, strategic planning, and sharpening professional skills (public speaking, personal imaging, and more).
Each participant will be asked to complete a 360-degree assessment before, during, and after the program to measure their development and progress.
Additional topics include: Understanding Greater New Haven’s assets and opportunities, the challenges and benefits of doing business in the New Haven area, the resources and relationships to enable leaders to compete and be successful in the region, as well as sessions designed to explore each of the 5 leadership practices outlined in the national best-selling book, The Leadership Challenge: How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations. Participants will hear the perspectives of successful business and community executives in this region as they present and elaborate on each leadership practice:
Model the Way
Inspire a Shared Vision
Challenge the Process
Enable Others to Act
Encourage the Heart.
Each participant will receive a copy of the book and be given additional tools and resources customized by our facilitators.
Cost: Partner: $1,800 | Non Partner: $2,400
During the LGNH leadership sessions, participants will have a unique opportunity to apply their leadership competencies to solve real business issues. Leadership participants are divided into teams and assigned to solve a strategic challenge that is identified by a nonprofit organization.
Nonprofits present their project scope and needs for their organizations. Over the course of the 6 sessions, class members will consult with the staff of the nonprofit to develop and implement action plans that ultimately will solve a specific business issue.
