From hiking trails to beaches, the Greater New Haven area is a wonderful area for the nature and sports enthusiast. The Sleeping Giant State Park, West Rock Ridge State Park, and East Rock Park, and the Shoreline Greenway Trail provide great trails for both the amateur and expert hiker.
In addition to great trails, the Greater New Haven area is host to a variety of beaches and state parks. Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison is a popular camping site and provides a host of outdoor activities. Lighthouse Point Park is another New Haven staple. Originally Five Mile Point Light (New Haven Harbor) Lighthouse guided ships for 73 years until its retirement. The Lighthouse Structure is still standing and is open for tours. Groups are brought up to the top of the Lighthouse and can see views of the park, the city of New Haven, and views of Long Island Sound.
